The Delta variant has introduced a wave of questions and anxiety as institutions prepare for the coming academic year. Colleges and universities are sending strong messages that student safety is the number one priority and are adjusting plans accordingly.
Many anticipated a “near-normal” semester as students returned to campuses. But with increased COVID infections and adjustments to vaccination policies, it’s difficult for campus leaders to predict what fall will look like. Manhattanville College, for example, is considering new tactics after seeing a rise in students considering gap years, and Goldey-Beacom College plans to continue leaning into “flex learning” initiatives to offer students who aren’t returning to campus the courses they need online.
